When to try adult day services
There are times when adult day services can provide assistance to frail elderly adults, as well as to their caregivers. The supervised care and stimulating atmosphere of an adult day center can help when someone you are caring for:
• Feels isolated, bored or lonely, with little to do but nap and watch TV.
• Has difficulty getting out of the house because of a physical impairment.
• Has Alzheimer's Disease or a related disorder.
If you are a family member or a caregiver of a senior with these needs, think of adult day services when:
• You need a break in your routine of continuous caregiving.
• You work and you would like your relative to be in a secure environment while you are away from home.
• You would like to return to work and there is no one to provide the daytime supervision your relative needs.
• You would like to provide an enriching, stimulating atmosphere for your loved one during the day.
