Adult day program
Adult day services differ from other forms of care in its unique focus on the strengths and abilities of persons with functional impairments. The focus is on health rather than illness.
The adult day programs provide an extraordinary range of services designed to:
- Stabilize medical conditions
- Prevent secondary disabilities caused by excessive bed rest or inactivity
- Improve functional abilities
- Improve quality of life
- Increase self-esteem

Improve or stabilize cognitive functioning
- Increase verbal ability
- Increase mobility
- Minimize troublesome behaviors
- Offer opportunities for friendships
- Decrease isolation and loneliness
- Improve behavior and mood
- Promote better nutrition
- Educate caregivers
Although each adult day program is unique, the following Principles of Care form the foundation for the services offered at all of the BEELONG Centers: 1. Respect is the cornerstone of all supportive and therapeutic relationships. 2. Communication is the basis for creating a caring environment. 3. Routine is important for the client. 4. Sufficient flexibility to accommodate clients is essential. 5. All care is strength based.
Scope of services
In keeping with these Principles of Care, BEELONG Adult Day Services will provide the following Scope of Services:
Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's ): • Bathing • Dressing • Eating • Toileting / Incontinence Care • Mobility/Ambulation
Assistance with therapeutic activities to help maintain some sense of normalcy for all clients.
Health related services: Daily nursing services to monitor and maintain the clients' physical and mental well-being and to take appropriate action as needed. Health related services include the following:
• Assessment • Monitoring vital signs and weight • Administration and documentation of medications • Health education and counseling • Nutritional advice • Liaison with clients' primary care physician • Monitoring and observation of health status • Nursing services that are within the scope of practice permitted and that can safely be done at the center • Staff education and training • Referring to and assisting with the coordination of other health services as needed. • Caregiver education
Social Services including: Information and referral • Initial screening • Assistance with the clients' adaptation to the center program • Provision of discharge/transition planning.
Nutritional Services to enhance nutritional well-being and to provide general nutrition education. Most therapeutic diets are available as needed.
Transportation information will be available at each day program.
Rehabilitative (occupational, speech, physical) therapy may be arranged and available through the day program.
The need for care/services will be considered for each client and an individual care plan will be developed.
